Elevion Group subsidiary BELECTRIC has been awarded a major contract by Severn Trent Green Power to construct four utility-scale solar power plants in the UK with a combined capacity of nearly 210 megawatt-peak. The project marks STGP's strategic entry into large-scale solar energy and reinforces BELECTRIC's position as a leading European EPC provider.
The expansion of renewable energy across Europe continues to gain momentum, with utility-scale solar projects playing an increasingly critical role in the transition to a climate-friendly energy supply.
In the United Kingdom, BELECTRIC, an Elevion Group company, has secured a major contract from Severn Trent Green Power (STGP) to deliver a solar portfolio with a total capacity of nearly 210 megawatt-peak (MWp).
The project comprises four photovoltaic power plants located in Warwickshire, Shropshire, Yorkshire, and North Yorkshire. Construction is scheduled to begin in staggered phases starting at the end of March 2026. The first three sites will be implemented promptly, with the fourth project following later in the year. Commissioning of all plants is slated for the period between August 2027 and January 2028.
These projects represent a significant milestone for Severn Trent Green Power. As part of the diversification of its existing portfolio, which currently generates around 335 GWh of energy annually, the new solar parks will provide approximately 180 GWh of additional renewable electricity generation capacity. At the same time, this marks the company’s entry into large-scale solar projects, supporting both regional supply security and national decarbonisation goals.
Technical execution under demanding conditions
As the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) provider, BELECTRIC is responsible for the design, procurement, and construction of all four facilities, bringing its decades of experience in large-scale solar projects to the table. The execution involves significant technical challenges, including overhead power lines and gas pipelines intersecting the project sites. Consequently, each plant will be individually tailored to meet specific site conditions.
Ecological considerations are also an integral part of the project planning. At selected sites, biodiversity enhancement measures—such as designated protection areas for skylarks—will be implemented to ensure an environmentally compatible design.
Alongside technical execution, collaboration with local communities plays a vital role. A structured communication approach guarantees transparent information flow and the active involvement of relevant stakeholders throughout the construction phase.
A partnership for renewable energy expansion
The collaboration between BELECTRIC and Severn Trent Green Power highlights the importance of strong partnerships in the successful execution of large-scale energy projects. For STGP, this solar portfolio represents a significant strategic step beyond its core business of energy generation from biowaste, strengthening its position in the UK renewable energy market.
For BELECTRIC, the project further cements its role as a leading EPC provider in the European solar market. Backed by the robust platform of Elevion Group, the company once again demonstrates its ability to reliably execute complex projects.
Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Dr. Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC, stated: "We are proud to realize this comprehensive solar portfolio together with Severn Trent Green Power. Backed by the strong European platform of Elevion Group, our team once again proves its ability to reliably deliver utility-scale plants, even under complex conditions."
Contributing to the UK's energy transition
As construction progresses, the four solar parks will make a substantial contribution to the expansion of renewable energy in the United Kingdom, underlining the growing importance of utility-scale photovoltaic projects in shaping a sustainable and resilient energy system.
