Elevion Group Constructs 200 MW / 840 MWh Utility-Scale Battery Storage Project in Germany

Through its PV and BESS specialist BELECTRIC, Elevion Group is acting as the GBoP partner for one of Germany's largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Brandenburg. With a capacity of 200 MW and 840 MWh, the "Bertikow" project will significantly enhance grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy.

Through its PV and BESS specialist BELECTRIC, Elevion Group has signed a GBoP (General Balance of Plant) contract to construct a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Brandenburg. With a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) and a storage volume of approximately 840 megawatt-hours (MWh), the project will rank among the largest battery storage facilities in Germany. It enhances power grid flexibility and makes a vital contribution to integrating renewable energies into the German electricity system.

Located in the municipality of Uckerfelde in Brandenburg, BELECTRIC—Elevion Group's PV and BESS specialist—will execute the 200 MW / 840 MWh utility-scale battery storage project as the General Balance of Plant (GBoP) partner for project partners ENERTRAG SE and Enlight Renewable Energy. In this role, BELECTRIC is responsible for the civil engineering and electrical infrastructure of the project up to the 33-kV medium-voltage level. The scope of work encompasses on-site interface management, road and earthworks, foundation and cabling works, as well as archaeological supervision and ecological compensation measures.

The grid-connected standalone storage system relies on proven lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, highly regarded for its long lifespan and high efficiency. Once commissioned, the facility will participate in the German electricity and balancing energy markets, providing crucial flexibility to offset fluctuations between power generation and consumption. Consequently, the project contributes to stabilising the regional power grid, bolsters supply security, and supports the continued integration of renewable energy into the German energy system.

Jaroslav Macek, CEO of Elevion Group, stated: "With the rising share of renewable energies in European energy systems, flexibility and resilience are becoming increasingly important. Through our contribution to the Bertikow project, Elevion Group succeeds in providing an answer to both challenges."

Dr Thorsten Blanke, CEO of Elevion Group member BELECTRIC, added: "With Bertikow, we are realising one of the most significant battery storage projects in Germany as a GBoP partner. As one of the country's largest BESS facilities, the project highlights the vital role battery storage can play in ensuring grid stability and supply security in the age of renewable energies."

Initial construction work on site has already begun. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place at the project location on 13 October 2026, attended by representatives from Enlight, ENERTRAG, and BELECTRIC. The project is scheduled for commissioning in the first half of 2028.

"As the expansion of renewable energies across Europe continues, large-scale storage systems are becoming ever more critical for the flexibility and supply security of electricity grids. Bertikow will help meet this demand while further strengthening Enlight's position in the European energy storage market," remarked Marko Liposcak, General Manager, Enlight Europe at Enlight Renewable Energy.
